நம்ம தோட்டம் தானா?

வடிவேல் ஒரு ஏழை விவசாயி. ரொம்ப வருஷமா சேர்த்து வெச்சுருந்த காசுல, கடைசி காலத்துல ‘ஹாயா ஹாப்பியா’ இருக்க ஊருக்கு வெளியே பண்ணை வீடு ஒன்னு வாங்கினார்.

வீட்டை சுத்திலும் செடி கொடி நர்சரி ஆப்பிள், பலா, பேரிக்கா, பேரிச்சை, அப்புறம் நடக்க பாதைன்னு அங்க ஒரு மினி பூங்காவையே கட்டிட்டார்.

அங்க இருந்த சிறிய குளத்தை கூட ‘அம்சமா’  5-ஸ்டார் ஹோட்டல் ரேஞ்சுக்கு நீச்சல் குளமா மாத்தி அசத்திட்டார்.

இவ்வளவும் செஞ்சுட்டு அந்த பக்கம் போக வேணாமா? ரொம்ப நாளா போகல.

ஒருநாள் திடீர்னு, தன்னோட பண்ணை ஞாபகத்துக்கு வர, வடிவேல் உடனே வீட்டை பார்க்க கிளம்பிட்டார்.

படுக்கை, பாட்டு புத்தகம், பாட்டில் (அது இல்லாமலா!) சகிதம், கையில் ஒரு பெரிய வாளியுடன், அங்கிருக்க ஆப்பிள் கொய்யா பேரிக்கா பறிச்சு எடுத்து வர கெளம்பிட்டார்.

பண்ணை வீடு வந்ததும், வடிவேலுக்கு ஆச்சரியம்!

“அட இது நாம வாங்கின தோட்டம் தானா? ஒருவேளை அட்ரஸ் எதுவும் மாறி வந்துட்டோமா” -ன்னு திகைத்து நிக்கற அளவுக்கு மாறி இருந்தது, அந்த வீடு.

பச்சை பசேல்ன்னு செடிகள் கொடிகள் மரங்கள்னு வளர்ந்து பார்க்க சூப்பரா இருந்தது.

அப்போ தான், அந்த சத்தம் கேட்டது. வடிவேலுக்கு shock. அப்படியே நின்னுட்டார்.

கொள்ளுன்னு சிரிப்பு சத்தம். ஒன்னு ரெண்டு இல்ல. ஒரு கூட்டமே சிரிச்சா எப்படி இருக்கும்? அதுமாதிரி சத்தம்.

யாரா இருக்கும்ன்னு, சத்தம் வரும் திசை நோக்கி நகர்ந்து போயி எட்டி பார்த்தார்.

அங்கே அவர் கண்ட காட்சி, மெய் சிலிர்க்க வைத்தது.

பெண்கள் கூட்டம் ஒன்று நீச்சல் குளத்தினுள் (பொட்டு துணி இல்லாமல்) நீந்தி குளித்துக் கொண்டு இருந்தனர்.

இப்போ வடிவேலுக்கு சந்தேகம் வலுத்துருச்சு. “நம்ம தோட்டம் தானா?”

ஆனா, கூட்டம் இப்போ வடிவேல பார்த்துருச்சு. “வீல்’ -ன்னு ஒரே கூச்சல்.

“யோ, பெருசு! யார் நீ? இங்க என்ன பண்ணற? யார் வேணும்? மரியாதையா போயிரு, இல்லைன்னா” – என சப்தமிட தொடங்கிட்டாங்க.

வடிவேல் ஒரு நிமிஷம் பாத்ரூம்ல பாம்பு பார்த்து பயந்து நடுங்கின ரஜினி மாதிரி வெலவெலத்து போனார்.

பெருசுன்னு வேற கூப்பிட்டு கேவலப் படுத்திருச்சே. ஆஹா! இப்போ என்ன செய்ய?

கூட்டம் சர்ர்ர்ன்னு தண்ணிக்குள்ள இறங்கி மறைச்சுகிட்டு இன்னும் ஓவரா சவுண்டு!

அவர் பொறுமையுடன், “யம்மா, நான் தான் இந்த பண்ணை வீட்ட்டுக்கு ஓனர். ரொம்ப நாளா, வரல. இன்னைக்கு தான் வந்தேன், ஆமா, நீங்கல்லாம் யாரு” -ன்னு கேட்டார்.

கூட்டம் ஆனா வடிவேலுவ கொஞ்சம் கூட கண்டுக்கல. ஓனர்னு சொன்னதையும் நம்பி மதிக்கல. பெருசு ஒன்னு குளிக்கறத எட்டி பாக்க வந்துருக்குன்னு கேலி பண்ண தொடங்கிருச்சு. ஒரே சிரிப்பு. கூச்சல் கும்மாளம்தான்.

வடிவேலுக்கு இப்போ என்ன செய்வதுன்னு குழப்பம். ஓனர்னு சொல்லியும், விடாம, இப்படி ஆட்டம் போடுதுங்களே யாரா இருக்கும்னு யோசிக்கையில் அங்கிருந்து ஒரு குரல்.

“சரி பெருசு, நாங்க யாருன்னு தெரிஞ்சுக்கறது இருக்கட்டும், குளிச்சு முடிச்சுட்டு வெளியே வரும் வரை, முன்பக்க வாசலில் போயி செத்த நேரம் இரு. நாங்க கூப்பிடுறோம். இப்படி எல்லாம் அசிங்கமா வந்து, எட்டிப் பார்க்கப்படாது, கெளம்பு. -எனக் கூறிவிட்டு, மறுபடியும் கெக்கே பிக்கே என சிரிப்பு.

வடிவேக்கு ஒன்னும் புரியல. பெண்கள் வேறு. ஏன் வம்பு என விலகிச் சென்றார்.

அப்போது அந்த கூட்டத்தில் நக்கலா ஒரு பீஸ், “ஆமா, கையில் என்ன பெரிய வாளி, பெருசு? குளிக்கும்போது எங்கள பார்த்து எச்சில் வடிச்சு வீட்டுக்கு எடுத்துட்டு போகவா? “ – எனக் கேட்டு குபீர் சிரிப்பு. அம்புட்டும் ஒட்டு மொத்தமா சிரிக்க, வடிவேல் இப்போ காண்டு ஆகிட்டார். ஆனாலும் பொறுமை காத்து நின்றார்.

இப்போ, மெல்ல வாய் திறந்தார்.

“அது ஒன்னுமில்ல, வாளி எதுக்குன்னா, இந்த குளத்தில் நான் வளர்க்கும் முதலைகளுக்கு வழக்கம் போல தீனி கொண்டு வந்திருக்கேன். சீக்கிரம் முடிச்சிட்டு வாங்க, வெளில”.  என்றார்.

அவ்வளவு தான். அதிர்ச்சியில், அத்தனையும் அரக்க பரக்க, மறைக்க துணி கூட எடுக்காம, ஒரே பாய்ச்சலில் கரை மேல எகிறி குதிச்சு ஓட்டம்.

வடிவேல் இப்போ mind voice: “யாருகிட்ட எங்கிட்டயேவா!”

Man falls dead. Just third day in office.

Look at the image. Don’t get shocked. The man is alive and kicking. 

All he did was take a nap in the office on the third day of joining duty as an intern. That gave an opportunity for his colleagues to gang up on him, take a selfie and post the picture on social media as a huge prank. And the photo is now viral. Sad!

The poor man’s name was Eduard. He had just joined a software company called GSoft based in Canada. 

It was in the year 2016 and the man says the show isn’t over yet.

A leader basically forms the top of a pyramid of his followers. A leader can’t function alone without his ardent followers. So, this is like asking if you’re an engine in a train or the coaches attached. One needs the other for a collective purpose.

I’m follower first, and leader next. It’s a journey.

Make Dashcam a Must. Keep Indian Roads Safe for Driving.

What’s one small improvement you can make in your life?

One death every three minutes. 462 a day. 1.68 lakh died in road accidents in India in the year 2022 alone. It’s a record high for the country.

And the numbers continue to rise. What are the reasons?

Some attribute it to human error. Some blame it on the bad quality of city roads. And a lot has got to do with the poor maintenance of vehicles.

Let me do something in my own life so that this human error doesn’t cost a life on Indian roads. Any longer. 

Make dashcam a mandatory requirement in vehicles plying on roads. 

Sit with the transport authorities in the country and emphasize the importance of employing a dashcam in vehicles. 

Those who get tickets on more than one occasion for traffic violations should appear in a hands-on training class with the specially appointed driving schools. They should be explained how to avoid situations that cause accidents on the basis of dashcam footage from their vehicles.

Let’s keep roads in India safe for driving. I shall kick-start a campaign in this regard. Today. 

Life, in the blink of an eye!

“Life is like riding a bicycle”.

Albert Einstein wrote in a letter to his son Eduard.

Balancing work, family, and leisure time can lead to a more harmonious existence.

One should maintain balance. To achieve it, we must be willing to adapt to new circumstances and embrace change.

But, that doesn’t happen too often. Life poses many challenges.

We grow old and lose a loved one. We get fired, get separated, meet with an accident or suffer an unexpected financial loss — any of these can happen when you least expect it.

A loss in life puts us down. But we should learn to move on with the same vigour rather than continue to suffer in pain.

Patience is what we should keep when overcoming challenges.

We all know how COVID-19 hit us all unaware. The pandemic showed how life is impermanent.

We suffered huge losses. Events were postponed, our travel plans cancelled, the economy tanked, many lost jobs, and uncertainty reigned supreme.

Buddha taught Four Noble Truths. 

They can be more simply put as: 

1) suffering exists. 

2) suffering has a cause; 

3) suffering has an end; 

4) and suffering has a cause to bring about its end.

Buddhism and Hinduism share the doctrine that says “nothing lasts, everything is in a constant state of change”.

Even Taoism and Sufism teach the same thing. 

We can’t take our bodies with us and accepting the impermanence of all things brings us closer to our divine nature.

The impermanence of life refers to the ever-changing nature and eventual perishing of all things in our universe. Plants die. People die. The universe keeps disappearing into eternity.

Everything ends.

Our life is recycled into the universe. All stars burn out. The universe will one day fold up, come to a close, so nothing, regardless of how big or small, can escape an ending.

You don’t have much of a choice. There’s no pause button in life.

‘This should also pass’ – should be one’s motto in life.

You’re here for a moment, so you might as well enjoy the blink of an eye that you’re here.

And remember what Jim Rohn said, “You cannot change the destination of your life overnight, but you can change your direction”.

Evolution is a brutal process. Only the strongest and the fittest will survive.

Millions of sperm are released into the uterus in a single ejaculation.

Conception is an arduous journey. The woman’s egg might reject the sperm of her chosen partner, says the latest research by a group of researchers at Stockholm University, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Manchester.

The female body considers sperm to be a foreign object and hence her immune system reacts to eliminate them.

And, defying the odds, a lone sperm staying alive in the uterus for up to three days, winning the war, swimming upstream, going on to penetrate the egg and completing fertilization is what we call successful conception. 

Being born, therefore, on this Earth must be the toughest and riskiest journey yet, and one should celebrate the moment rather than regret it.

I’ve won the war, a risky venture against a 250 million strong army, and I have no regrets.

 

A Polo for a Porsche?

Write about a time when you didn’t take action but wish you had. What would you do differently?

Well, it was one day in 2012. 

I was flying from Delhi to Chennai. I saw this advertisement in a magazine while sipping a cuppa.

I’ve always dreamed of owning a fast (flashy) car. But I can’t afford a Porsche.

I thought owning a Porsche would at least help avoid eating the horrible food on the airline. 

I now drive a Volkswagen Polo GT. I still fly. Eat the same boring food. Sad.

Wish I had seriously considered popping in at a Porsche showroom and laid a hand on one. So much so that I don’t eat the airline food any longer. At all.

I’m looking at an offer from the German car company that helps exchange a Polo for a brand-new Porsche.
